Report the incident to local authorities.
After you seek medical attention, it’s very important to report the incident to any local animal control authority, police, or even the sheriff’s department or a health department. They are responsible for further investigating the incident and determining if the dog has a long history of aggression.
They also need to make sure that the animal is properly quarantined and monitored for different signs of rabies or any other diseases. Reporting the incident could also help prevent future attacks and hold the owner accountable for their pet’s behavior.
Document the incident.
If you are considering whether or not you should take legal action against the owner of the dog, it’s very important to document the incident as well as you can.
This could also include taking photos of your injuries, collecting various contact information from any witnesses, and even keeping all medical records related to the incident.
The more information you have on hand about the attack, the stronger your case will be if you decide to pursue any kind of legal action.
Now, we don’t want to tarnish the reputation of these breeds. I had a Rottweiler that was the purest angel on earth. This doesn’t mean that all these dog breeds are inherently aggressive, as at the end of the day, it all comes down to proper training!

So basically what you’re saying is, ANY dog not properly trained and socialized will bite.
You didn’t need an entire article to explain that. Just a simple sentence would have sufficed.
As a dog lover, this “article” is just scare tactics!
Terrible artice, says “Dogs that biter their owners” ,, but every paragragh only discussed fatal dog attacks…………
I’ve had many pit bulls. None of them were vicious. EVER! Pitbulls are like any other dog. Their temperament is 100% based on how they were raised, and how they were treated. It’s not a bad dog breed. It is an idiot owner that abuses the dog, any breed, that makes a dog of any kind vicious. If the media would stop printing lies about these dogs and essentially sentencing them to death because of fear mongering efforts by the press, the public would realize it is a human problem. NOT A PITBULL GENETIC PROBLEM. ALL DOGS ARE LIKE KIDS. THEY LIVE WHAT THEY LEARN. UNLIKE HUMANS, DOGS LIVE TO PLEASE THEIR HUMANS. THEY DON’T KNOW ANY BETTER. THEY DON’T DISCRIMINATE. WHICH IS WHY ABUSIVE PEOPLE SHOULD BE BANNED FROM OWNING THESE DOGS. THESE DOGS ARE VERY LOVING AND LOYAL AS LONG AS THEY ARE LOVED AND RAISED PROPERLY.
Irresponsible click bait. You’re not qualified to condemn dogsxon hearsay. Chihuahuas are the dog that bites the most. U.S Veteranarians repeatedly list when formally asked followed by ChowChows. This is nothing but crass click bait. I hope you get bitten in your brains. I’m meantvasshole
I have had several German Shepherds. I have never had an aggressive one. They were very loving and loyal. We left one of our Shepherds in Ellensburg with my elderly parents for a little over a week. When we got back my parents wanted to keep him. Apparently, he would follow my dad everywhere he would walk. When he came back inside his house the dog would follow him and lay down right next to his chair. They had hardly known him. Very loyal dogs. Maybe Joe sensed that he had extremely high blood pressure. My dad would never go to the doctors. He died of a massive stroke a few months later.
I find it distasteful to entice people hinting at what dog breeds will attack their owners. Then, within the article every breed is said to protect their owner, but is responsible for whatever many fatal attacks..then go on to say it is a good breed if properly trained. The article is a waste of my time withe it’s dichotomy.
That picture is not a Pit Bull. Have had 3 over the years and find them wonderful.
This article would lend more credibility if the photo used would match the breed. Bad job.
Absolutely False!! As a matter of Fact although AMPBTerriers were Bred for ( among other things ) Fighting, actually they were Bred for Drive, stamina, courage, higher pain tolerance, Bite force and stability. True these traits make a good fighting Dog, But they were also bred specifically to be non aggressive to people. They had to be, so you could handle them during a fight. And if an AMPBT did act aggressive to people they were most often put down so as not to have human aggressive tendencies in the Breed. My words are fact!! Look it up. Stop writing shit that is wrong
This is a horrible, unfactual article. Dogs don’t bite based on breed, they bite based on their indivduality and how their owners train them. Also, there are 75 breeds that attribute to the breed that make up PITBULL. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that “breed” will have the highest bite incidents. Every other breed is its own category i.e. a Golden Retrievers bite stats will only come from Golden Retrievers. Lastly, “Pitbull” type breeds have rated higher in the American Temperment Testing than Border Collies, and Golden Retrievers. You’re not doing these dogs any favors by publishing this article and uninformed people will use this to justify their ignorance on the subject. Shame on you.
This article is not based on fact. Many of these breeds are great family dogs. The author must not be a dog lover or owner. The thing about dogs that most of the time “bad” dogs are owned by BAD owners. Dogs require love, attention and training.
Whoever writes these should be looking for a job! At the very least, do some real research before putting false information all over the internet!
10 dog breeds that are most likely to attack their owners I click on it 10 times and it brings me back to the same article I want to know which 10 dogs are going to bite me not the rest of this shit
All dogs can be aggressive if provoked, mistreated and not properly trained! Articles like this feed into a stereotype and is irresponsible reporting!
I have had several German Shepherds and none have ever been aggressive towards the family and we had small girls that they were vary protective of. I don’t think this is necessarily true…
Do not send me this crap! Pit bulls and bully’s are the two best breeds I’ve ever owned. Your article is trash and you clearly dont even know what a pit bull is. You placed pit bulls number one and showed a picture of a dog that doesn’t even resemble a pit bull in the least.
I would like to hear more about these dog breeds
Not sure if this article is accurately titled. Maybe it should be, Dogs that are Most Likely to Hurt You if They Attack You.
Chihuahua’s and Jack Russel Terriers, and even toy poodles are as aggressive, if not more aggressive than many of the breeds mentioned. But because they are small, and don’t kill or seriously maim, they get off scott-free.
The Jack Russel down the street burst out of his house and attacked my Pitt Bull as we walked by. I had to literally pick up my 50 lb pitty with the dog clamped to her foot and dangling there. When I got home, there was blood- MY DOG’S blood on her face from where the dog had bit her.
The problem with these statistics is that are 8 breeds lumped into the pit bull category. There are dogs that are considered pit bulls while their litter mates are not. This needs to be rectified.
Pit Bulls are a loosely used way to describe a dog! Not all attack are these dogs! I trusted Pit bulls while my kids grew up, not one attack or aggressive behavior! Stop the lying! Stop the false in of because purposeful misinformation creates death to thousands of innocent dogs and rescues are trying to save them! All dogs regardless of DNA are taught how behaviors by humans! Do not blame the dog, Blame the failure of the human being either being stupid and not teaching them basic training, Many sadly are trained for guarding not a loving pet! You are not blaming the dog fighters or their training !!! Place the blame where it truly goes not the dogs who live out what lessons and behaviors are taught!
66% of fatal dog bites are caused by PITBULLS. Can’t you read? These dogs were/are BRED TO FIGHT/ATTACK. It doesn’t mean all of them will, but it’s in their blood line. The same for other breeds–for instance, if you own a Beagle and you go out and get a rabbit too, don’t be surprised if your dog one day goes after the rabbit.. THE INSTINCT WAS BRED INTO THEM OVER MANY YEARS.
Plus, read up on pitbull attacks-they don’t just bite-they HANG ON and won’t let go.
I don’t care how well you raise your pitbull–there is always a better than average chance it will attack someone-even a family member.
But you have the right to own one. You’re lucky none of your pitbulls ever harmed anyone. Hope it never happens to you or anyone else. Just know that the chances are higher than with most other breeds.
Amen, Charity Schultz!
I totally agree – I own a pittie and she is very docile. She does bark when strangers first come to our home, so we let her know it is safe, then she is fine. Never has she been aggressive. I totally put blame where it lies and that is on the owner. If you let a person (including children) abuse a dog, don’t care what type – they will protect themselves and this includes biting. Wake up people and get a grip on the reality of the situation!
You got very lucky.
I happen to agree. I adopted a female dog from a fighting ring and she was the sweetest dog I ever had..I was devastated when I had to put her to sleep..The human animals are the most dangerous animals on this poor Planet that will soon look like the Moon, because of our stupidity and greed!
I agree I have huskies and I know alot of others with huskies that have never had them even be aggressive. Pits are great family dogs and those that are raised as family and not attack dog will almost never bite family.
This article was written with false Information. I agree with u on that
Real Truth! My red nosed Female Pitty is my emotional support animal. The only thing she has done is chase mean kids on their bikes because they threw rocks at her when she was barking at them from a distance. This article is ridiculous! The only dog that has ever bitten me was a Chihuahua! Why arent these “ankle biters” not listed??
To me they are one of the most brainless Gave been bit by 3 blow one apart before he got to me Still have problems with the knee one bit But have known some that are ok not that i would ever really trust them
You are correct. Thanks for standing up for Pitties.
Exactly!….Yet, so many people buy into this BS. If anything, they are the most abused of the breeds because of horrible humans like Michael Vic. He ended up getting a slap on the wrist and then awarded a sports trophy shortly after.
A slap on the wrist? You are comical! He went to jail for his crimes. He was a professional football player. Yeah, they receive rewards for great play on the field such as MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Comeback Player of the Year. Vick was a talented Pro Bowl quarterback and he won Comeback Player of the Year. So what?
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/police-found-pit-bulls-eating-11719337
bingo.
this was a full grown adult, not a child nor small animal..
yet people still adopt this dangerous breed.. they are in denial.
Micheal Vick should be in jail
I am SO tired of defending my pittbulls breed. It’s ridiculous!!’ I think that Michael Vick should be covered in RAW meat than have a bunch of hungry dogs unleashed released at a end zone and have him run naked from the end zone and IF he can make it through the other end zone he will be redeemed in my eyes!!!
Charity, you must know that your personal experience with the Pitt breed is certainly clouding your judgement (but most anyone would do the same who’ve had similar experiences). Even if you and your friends & family members had excellent experiences with the Pitt breed; it is such a small sample size of an inherent dangerous dog. You might want to seek out reputable sources on the matter such as animal control personnel, emergency medical, and law enforcement personnel to get the bigger picture on a danger to the public.
Well said!
I agree. I have has labs and pits all my life it all how they are raised and socialized
100% true. My pitbull, actually an American Pitbull terrier is the general sweetest animal I have ever encountered. And everyone I’ve talked to who loves on one tells me exactly the same thing.
Agreed side note – so for all the kids out there with no home training , do we get to punish the parents for their taught behavior ?
They were bread to fight. Can’t take that out of a dog. Its like a trying to take the herding instinct out of a border Collie.
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/police-found-pit-bulls-eating-11719337
wrong. look up the stats.
PIT BULLS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE MAULINGS AND MORE DEATHS THAN ALL OTHER BREEDS COMBINED.
proven fact.
Well said. Thank you.
Exactly… know and tell your pets what is expected of them. Or leave the dogs to people that can and do.
I have loved Pitt bulls, as sweet a dog as there ever was & I don’t buy into the belief they’re bad, how they’re raised and breeding have a lot to do with their sullied reputation. I also believe dogs were developed for certain tasks and a dachshund naturally goes to ground and digs, a retriever retrieves, a pointer points, you don’t have to teach them, it’s breed in them. A Pitt was developed to fight, that plus the fact Pitts are responsible for well over half of the dog bites or fatalities seen in emergency rooms are inescapable realities. My little grandson got a puppy thru petsmart, sweet pup, he’s been a good dog, had his dna tested and he’s 100% Pitt bull terrior. Rescue organizations are full of them, the one I’m associated with gets a Pitt, and it lives the rest of his life there, you can’t place them. It’s hard to reconcile the issues with Pitt’s, they are obviously adored and sweet natured most of the time but I know a young woman who got a pair at 6 weeks old and was good to them, she goes home after work and was preparing to take them for their afternoon walk and they killed her, she bled out on the floor by the door. I’d say beware to anyone considering this controversy breed.
You are so correct. My son has a Pit Bull all he is one big sweet heart of a dog. The only dog they showed that I don’t know much about is a Chow. It should be the owners that as blamed for their dog behavior, not the dog.
You and your dog deserve your own bus. You know, the short ones for special transport.
No, not all attacks are, just 66%
AMEN!
The photo to the pitbull is not a pitbull.
My friends sister was attacked by her brothers pit bull while watching them just because she got her purse strap caught on something. Her arm was nearly severed and if it wasn’t that she had her cell phone in her hand and escaped to a closet to call 911, she would have bled out. The dogs were never abused or mistreated. I’ve heard other stories of pit bulls attack their owners.
Just because your dogs did t do anything, that doesn’t represent all of them. I bet you don’t hear of golden retrievers killing their owners,
I agree with you 100%! I rescued one and retrained her. She had never known love or even how to PLAY! She became one of the sweetest DOGS/PITBULLS on the planet! And she LOVED people and other animals. I found her cuddling with one of my cats one day. She let the cat eat from her dinner dish while she was still eating! I lost her to cancer. 😭 One of THE VERY BEST dogs that I have ever owned! Pit bulls are the subjects of racism to dogs! It is WRONG!
You’re wrong, very wrong. Just because of your one positive experience with one dog doesn’t mean that this is same way all dogs of that breed. I have sen first hand what a ‘loving’ Pit can do if it ever thinks it has been provoked. It isn’t pretty.
I totally get what you’re saying HOWEVER numbers don’t lie. 66% of FATAL attacks by dogs ARE done by Pit Bulls. These numbers speak accurately and honestly of FATAL dog attacks. This is not saying that ALL Pit Bulls are aggressive potential killers to be feared. But it IS saying to use common sense when dealing dog breeds that have been PROVEN to cause the majority of fatal attacks. Go in to any animal shelter; you’ll see the majority of dogs that have been surrendered, abandoned or are strays are Pit Bull Terriers or Pit Bull mixes. Sad but true.
They are killer dogs never to be trusted.
Amen!!! I agree!!
All dogs will bite their owners if you do not treat them right
I know the other says they’re not trying to vilify these breeds, but this article is. In 2023 there 70 reported cases of fatal dog attacks. 50+ were associated to Pit Bulls, which is a stock name given to at least several breeds not just one and that’s not even including all the mixed breeds who are automatically just called Pit Bulls if they look a certain way or have Pit Bull in their mix.
Honestly most dogs that I don’t know and even some of those scare me, but I love dogs and have owned one of the breeds on this list a Doberman who bit me once as a puppy and that was it after a little correction. That’s not to say he didn’t bite anyone else as I know he got my father once or twice. And yet, in the right conditions I hope to have the chance to own another some day as he was an amazing dog.
The reports say 1,000 Americans a day are bit by dogs and annually almost 12,500 are hospitalized due to a dog bite that are not lethal. Like all pets, not everyone should own a dog especially these type of breeds that are big enough and strong enough to seriously injure others and themselves if not trained or cared for properly. Also, can some of the photos in the article be fixed as they display the wrong breed.
A pitbull stands the chance of getting Dementia,
some Big heads breeds or Bullys, can turn when older. They can attack their owner and or mostly
children, for no reason. I have personally known this
to be true in two separate incidences. Great dogs but keep a close eye as the get older with small kids.
This entire article is a good example of an idiot discussing something on the internet they have no serious background in. I find your ability to use the following basic premise and adapt it to every breed you claim is aggressive not only disingenuous but rather lazy on your part.
However, this also comes with a dash of aggressiveness towards strangers or any other animal, especially if they’re not properly trained and don’t spend enough time socializing. According to the CDC, (every dog breed) are responsible for a wide number of fatal dog attacks every year.
I disagree! All dogs are bred with a purpose, it’s in their genetic makeup. All you have to do is look up dog bite statistics to see that pit bulls are far and away the most likely breed to bite and inflict deadly harm. Not an opinion, just plain hard facts.
I have raised many Pit Bulls, they are not aggressive unless trained (by human owner) to be that way. Any dog & I mean any dog can be trained to be aggressive, but Pit Bulls is the go to because of their jaw strength & appearance. Also even when trained to be aggressive/fight if people would take the time & learn a little about them even those trained to fight can learn not to be aggressive. Because of articles like this everybody is scared to take the time with Pits & so their FALSE bad reputation keeps growing.
PIT BULLS ARE THE MOST LOYAL, LOVING, AFFECTIONATE, PROTECTIVE (NOT AGGRESSIVE), & LAP DOGS. I would chose a Pit to watch my girls over most humans any day.
SMH….. THE PEOPLE THE WRITE THESE LIES ARE THE DAM BULLYS & PROBABLY NEVER EVEN BEEN AROUND HALF THE DOGS THEY WRITE ABOUT!!!
A BOND BETWEEN A PIT & THEIR OWNER IS UNBREAKABLE. BUT A BOND BETWEEN A PIT & THEIR OWNERS DAUGHTER WILL MELT YOUR HEART!!!
Wow! You’ve got the list wrong! It is clear you harbor old stereotypes about dogs. Early training is key for any dog. Top biters are chihuahua, Jack Russel, beagle, cocker spaniel.
My mom and Dad had a very loving Shitz Zu. One day when he was about 4 years old a neighbor child was over visiting. She knew “Boomer” and he knew her. She was throwing his ball and he was bringing it back (tail wagging). It was one of his favorite games. He would bring it back and drop it. She would quietly pick it up and toss it again. about 10–15 minutes, she picked it up and he lunged at her and bit her face, under her eye. It was serious enough that she needed stitches, she was about 5 years old, very well behaved. Absolutely no reason for him to bite her, he never bit again, but my parents were always afraid and if any children came to visit, they would put Boomer in a bedroom just to be on the safe side. He never bit again, loved all company but they still never let him be near children again. The county government almost made them put him to sleep. They are always notified if the hospital gets a bite victim. The dog was labeled as a “biter”, which I understand. Also their
homeowners insurance went up considerably. So sad for all of them, owners/my parents in their late 70’s who loved this dog, poor little girl who fortunately was told that this was unusual and she grew up still loving dogs and all the rest of us who understood this was not something Boomer would ever do, but he did. Fortunately he lived to be over 16 years old, being loved by my parents and me. Just a really sad thing that happened one time over 25 years ago, that we will never forget.
I don’t know why I’m on this stupid email list but y’all need to stop spreading misinformation about pitbulls. I hope the person who wrote this article gets majorly attacked by their stupid fucking retard poodle. Nasty little fucker.
Come on! You can do better. You put the picture of a German Shepherd above your text describing Pit Bulls.
This article comes off extremely ignorant and dangerous. All of the breeds mentioned can also be known as the most loving, cuddly, and trusting dogs. It’s in how they are raised. Some behaviors are of course innate but how they react is learned. Training should be done for all pets regardless of breed or type. Educating yourself before taking on anything (children, elderly, pets) is necessary!
I ve been around & owned Rottweilers & Pitbulls my whole life & they are the most loving & trustworthy dogs you can own. Stop giving them bad name & reputation, they never once showed aggressive behavior or tried to bite anyone. The dogs you need to watch out for the most are them little yappers, they should be the ones you’re writing about & saying everyone should watch out for not these dogs. Spreading misinformation like this is what gives Pits & Rotty’s the bad name when they’re really the best dog you could own. In truth any dog can bite but it’s all how you train the dog & if you don’t know how to train a dog properly, you don’t deserve to have one. Just get your info straight 1st before posting an article like this, giving those great dogs a bad name and reputation
You are publishing skewed information. The reason Pit Bulls have the highest bite rate is that 70% of Pit Bulls are working dogs. They are used for protection people, guarding homes, guarding commercial & industrial sites. Police or military dogs and unfortunately status symbols in gangs. Small dog bites never are reported out of embarrassment or the owners don’t want the dogs removed. Maligning this breed is now responsible for destroying over 1 million good dogs. Some shelter automatically kill all pittie bull intakes. These are great dogs and like all dogs much be training patiently abd lovingly. They are also the #1 species of dog that endure extreme abuse or abandonment. Follow pittie sites on social media before to publish a skewed narrative.
I totally agree with you. There behavior is up to your your training. My pitty lives around a loving family. I trust her around anyone of my family and friends. The only mean bone in her body would be to protect any one of us.
I am a professional dog walker of 15 years. I specialize in large breed and “dangerous”dogs. Some of my favorite dogs are pit bulls. Sweet tempered. Many desire attention and crave affection. I have only been bitten twice. Both times by German Shepherds. ANY dog can bite. Most of the time I blame HUMANS. Folks don’t know their dogs and allow them to grow up without rules. Dogs ( like wolves) have a pecking order. If YOU are not the Alpha Dog, your dog will be. Get your dog professionally trained and know how to become the boss – otherwise your dog will.
I feel it’s how you raise your dog will determine it’s behavior. Dog do have feelings and they know when the owner is upset with them. When my dog is annoyed he let’s me know and I back off. But he is the most affectionate dig I have ever had. He knows when I am sad and comes to me and licks my arm and he hugs me. I wouldn’t trade my Toby for anything. He is a Maltese.
Funny how pit bulls have an awful reputation but are in the very low end of your list. They are amazing with humans and children and score better than Labrador Retrievers on temperament tests. You should do your research.
puppy mills will interbreed dogs mother son and so on those dogs do not usually get proper brain signals. those dogs are most likely the ones that will bite with out warning. So if your considering getting a breed that is naturally protective get it from a reputable breeder and socialize your pup . i have had dobermans for 42 years and run a daycare in my home children and the dogs where always together and never had a problem even when the kids where teething and bit the dogs.
I’m really on the fence about Pit Bulls. When I see them, I sort of instinctively back up a little, just because they look pretty ferocious. I realize that can be just because of all the bad press they’ve gotten. On the other hand, my sister had three – all of which were gotten by her son or daughter as puppies, but somehow ended up living with my sister & her hubby – and they were great dogs. They were gentle, they were fun, but they still were ferocious looking! But then I saw one of them that they’d had for years actually bite its owner (my niece) and not let go. In fairness, she was a nurse & was trying to help her father, who was ill (he passed away shortly after), and maybe the dog was just being protective, but he wouldn’t let go. They ended up having to put him down because he’d attacked someone and they felt they couldn’t trust him anymore. Pit Bulls are not completely absolved of any of this; and this dog certainly was not trained to be that way by anyone in my sister’s family.
U people tell us pitbulls are on the list but thats bs . Any dog can bite and my pits are full of love and hearts and cottoncandy . People are the problem. People that make up stupid statistics , peaole that follow a made up naritive and regergitate it , all to bring a bad name and reputation to something they do not understand nor want to . I bet the people writing this bs have cats.
I read this whole dog breed crapola. Any dog even nice ones, if provoked will defend itself or attack. Biting is their defense, they don’t have hands to make a fist.
This whole article is you read to the end, is all about going after pet owners. Taking legal action, either by the cops, or especially civilly to make money off the owner. I’ve seen people provoke dogs of others, trying to get bit or attacked. Just so they can sue and make money off owners. Yes that does happen a lot everywhere. Don’t you doubt it.
This whole article, is all about getting people aware, of how to make money. Putting themselves at risk.
In my view, I would protect my pets, especially my dogs, or any other dogs out there. Before any freaking nasty human beings out there at all. Humans Are More Dangerous Than Dogs. Think About It.
Dogs are only aggressive when provoked by a human…..
I’ve never had a more loving, mushy, friendly dog than my pitty. He’s not aggressive at all. He loves to cuddle and sleep. I’ve owned dogs my whole life. All different breeds. My pitty is the biggest cuddle bug by far. And the facial expressions… oh my! lol any dog can be aggressive. ANY DOG!
I have a pit bull and she does not bite instead she is more protective, friendly and extremely attached to me. Humans are the ones who will hurt you. Georgia
This article is all BS, misinformation, disinformation, propaganda and breed bias. Unsubscribe to geeky gecko and maybe biased articles will stop.
Growing up best dog we ever had was Barron Doggie a German Shepard which was our family dog great with kid and adults as well and he always warned us of dangerous people . Dogs are a great judge of people so watch and learn from them as one dog some day just may save your life .
Pit Bulls are an aggressive Dog breed no matter what your opinion is- maybe the smaller type of putty is better – I believe !
It is in their instinct to start turning aggressive and deadly towards their owner !
In some countries they are not breed anymore.
Why have them there are so many other Dogs who are better and safer!
Used to swear by German shepherds and Dobes. Got Pits and will never get any other breed. They are smart, loving and funny as all get out. Always getting into trouble and blaming it on each other. They ignore the cats even when harassed beyond belief. They get a bad rap because of bad, I’ll informed owners and a news media that tends to blame the dog breed and not the greedy heartless owners. Breed chihuahuas to fight, ignore pain, force unbelievable breeding practices for money and you get the same outcome. “Chew on dat.”
Too many dog owners are on the defensive. The article does NOT blame the dog. It in fact blames humans. Unfortunately humans get pit bulls, rotties, etc, although not properly screened beforehand.
So take it easy. Humans are always the problem! Think about it. All the problems on earth are human generated!
I now own a pit bull in our family and she is the most loving and obedient dog! She does bark at people but that’s because she suffers from bad anxiety. I saved her from a very bad situation.
The only dog I’ve been bitten by was a chihuahua and I didn’t see them on your list?
Our family has owned (7) “rescue” dogs since 1988 of different types. All have been excellent, and well tempered except for one of three that are still with us. He is a an approximately (9) year old beautiful Basset/Border Collie Mix.
Dow to his anxiety,as well as other “Jekyll & Hyde” aggressive symptoms, it has been determined by both licensed animal behaviorists, as well as vets, that he has neurological problems. He is currently on (3) different medications to help control his 60 second outbursts, which go from (0-60), and then back down to (0). Since he “triggers” so easily and unexpectedly, we have adjusted our methods of dealing with him so he stays in line. He has bitten over the course of (9) years (6) times not too serious my daughter, and wife. I have been threatened, but never bitten. If this continues he will eventually be humanely euthanized. We have done everything to help this dog, and have run out of options. We are great owners to our pets. Sometimes, “problems” with dogs can be out of one’s control, but we can say with absolute certainty that all avenues in helping solve our dog’s issues have been pursued. It is not always an owner’s fault when a dog turns out bad.
Totally agree with the other comments. We raised a beautiful female pittie from when she was a puppy. Before we had our own children, she played with the neighbor children. She was gentle with them. Our daughters learned to stand holding onto Delilah. She was patient with them. She played rougher with my husband but she never bit him. She was loving to our other family members & our friends. These lovely dogs have been so abused & used as bait for fighting. Punishment for anyone who fights these dogs should be much harsher than it is!
First off I’m looking for a breed that is not listed ? For one reason or another they bite or attack . Have you ever had someone run over your toe ? Let me guess you sat down right where you were and asked for a piece of ice? I’m sure you attack. What you failed to realize is every breed before coming to the states , had a role a job a service, and that’s where the saying man’s best friend . Have you ever had some one walk up behind you ? You scream kick cuss , you bite , you attack . My issue is most of the dogs all but three I have had them as personal house in door pet / family members . Even the big angry jaws . Nobody attacks just to attack . No different then genius like yourself who speak before having knowledge . Unless you spend time with them . Don’t talk about. It’s bias or racial!!! And I’ve had some of the roughest dogs train and be the best. I’m sure there is something out of place in your world .
It is not an accident or isolated incidence when 2/3 of all fatal dog bites comes from one species. It is a problem even though you may try to find excuses. Thank you to the authors for posting this article. We knew it was a problem. We just didn’t know it was this bad.
The Shocking Truth: What the Media Won’t Tell You About Trump’s 2024 Plans
Trump Has NEVER be able to tell the truth about anything.
1. Strengthen the Economy?
This country’s economy and jobs are the best this country has been in over 60 years and the envy al world nations under the Biden/Harris administration. Wall Street and the Fortune 500 companies have had record highs so much that even FOX News had to admit its successes. Trump will impose the largest Tax increase this country has ever seen with his plans to intact Tariffs. Tariffs are taxes placed on goods purchased every day as long as parts needed to produce and maintain equipment needed to have this country function. It will increase your every day spending by 28% or more on each item. Trump has said that he may even increase it to 1,000% bankrupting the people of this country within 2 years.
2. National Security?
Trump wants to destroy and dismantle the largest and best National security agencies like the FBI and turn our State and local policing agencies into what was Known as thee Black and Brown Shirt organizations we saw in WWII Germany and Italy. Trump Will unleashed the Dregs of this country as his personally army like he did on Jan. 6, 2021. He Will try to withdraw from NATO turning his back on ALL our allies in favor of alliances with Communist leaders of North Korea and Rusha.
3. Healthcare & Environmental Issues?
Trump has Vowed to dismantle the ACA, Social Security and give that money to Insurance companies and his wealthy non taxpaying friends.
I had a pitbull and a Chihuahua…hands down the Chihuahua bit me and was aggressive versus my gentle giant pitbull.
I have a 120 pound 4 year old male Doberman who has never once tried to bite me or anyone else. He’s very protective of me (I’m a female) and my 2 year old female basset hound. He’s the most intelligent, loving goofball I’ve ever seen. He loves kids and is wonderful with my 82 year old almost blind and extremely frail male neighbor. He stalks squirrels and lizards in my yard he thinks this is his job. I take offense at him being labeled as a dangerous dog just as I take offense at the labeling of pit bulls as bad dogs. I grew up with one and she was a sweet wonderful girl. There were never any aggression issues with her.
So much bullcrap. I’ve owned Dobermans for the last 35 yrs. They’ve raised my kids, played with countless others, while keeping my kids safe. My daughter used one in 4H. She was handled by other kids in showmanship. I will take a Doberman over any other breed.
My husband and I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier female. Over the years we have had five German Shepherds, one Akita, one boxer, and one Keeshond (Dutch Barge Dog). None of these dogs have ever been aggressive if not very provoked, but all were good watch-dogs and protective of us and our family. However, none have been as smart, loving, gentle while still protective as our beautiful Staffordshire. She loves and accepts whoever we accept–both humans and dogs. She often encounters animals on nature trails while walking with us. Once she encountered a young deer up close and licked its nose. She never barks at wild animals or attempts to chase them. I highly recommend Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
The article should use pictures that match the dogs they are talking about. That is NOT a Pit Bull on the pit bull page, not a ALASKAN MAL in the Alaskan Mal page. And it is insulting that they use a Chihuahua for the first image yet they don’t even list them as a breed likely to bite. OK article, but your photo editor sucks.
I am now on my 4th Pittie or Pittie/mix (all rescues). The first one was somewhat aggressive with strangers and no amount of exercise seemed to help. He was very hyper.
The 2nd and 3rd ones were both sweet. Both were great with my grandkids and were almost shy with newcomers. They all died at age 8… all from cancer. I’m in my 70s now and I nanny for infants thru preschool. I thought I wanted a small lapdog this time but got scammed out of money on the internet twice so gave up on that. I finally gave in and rescued another Pittie. She is 2 and appears to be close to a fullblooded Staffy. She is 65 pounds of solid muscle and has energy for days. She is extremely protective of me and our home but makes friends quickly once they’re inside. She is really sweet with the littles and they lay all over her and she sleeps with her big ol’ head on their laps. As long as I pick the child up and sit them on the couch with me when she is doing zoomies (so she doesn’t bump into them and knock them down), she’s great! And she is so affectionate and loving!
ANY dog can be a great dog with proper training, love and care. Pitties get a bad rep and it is all because of the humans who abuse them.
maybe your PIT BULL will go all its life and your “sweetest” dog wont do anything, however this does not negate the proven statistical truth that PIT BULLS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE MAULINGS AND MORE DEATHS THAN ALL OTHER BREEDS COMBINED.
the “pack mentality” in pits is skewed, and they turn on the very family that raises it, feeds it, sleeps with it, exercises with it, eats with it.. in all arenas.. in fact just (last summer?) a TN mother had 2 “family dogs” (pit bulls) that were raised with the family and they killed her 3 year old child AND 18 month old toddler.. she even threw her body on top of them to stop and they mauled her as well.. one child was in a seat/carrier and no the kids werent torturing the dogs, nor were the dogs abused in any way.. that excuse is ridiculous since across the board, pit bulls are “neglected” just as much as other breeds, yet it is still, consistently, the one breed that bites and KILLS. not only other animals, but humans as well..
its a proven statistic and denying it is to reject reality.
be Careful of these dogs around your children and grandchildren.. they are unpredictable and dangerous, but they dont just bite once and leave like many other breeds do, they come back and repeatedly maul, rip apart and wont let go of their victims.. sorry if you like these dogs but its a solid, proven fact. liu.
Agreed the pit bull get too many negative reviews and are the most misunderstood breed! I have had lots and they are precious! Never a problem with them!
My Staffordshire terrier is a big baby. Loves kids. His bark is way worst than his bite as he is 7yrs old and never bitten into anyone. They call him a pitbull but he is our big baby.
Some very fake info there about pitbulls, just fear mongering hype.
Yeah, you might have a loving dog but that is because they were conditioned that way.
The dog’s nature is aggressive.
Because you provide them food and they do not have the need to hunt for their own food, they become docile but they are still aggressive beasts by nature.
If you weren’t feeding them then you would probably be on their menu.
These are wild animals that have been domisticated.
We recently adopted and a 5-month old female Cocker Spaniel from a local breeder. She’s precious ! But . . . she bites me daily and sometimes my husband too but not as often or as serious. We can’t wait for next month when her groomer/trainer helps us. Just saying . . .
I shared a house with a friend who had a Pit for 12 years. I had a Border Collie. Everything was fine. That does not change the fact that Pits are a small percent of the total number of dogs, yet are responsible for over 2/3s of fatal dog attacks – often attacks on the owner’s children. Pit’s are ‘touchy’. Have a Pit with small kids at your own risk. You’ve been warned. … My parents had an adorable Husky. That does not change the fact that the Husky breed – per capita – kills the most humans year after year. Proof? Re-read this article, or look up ‘dog attacks’.
I noticed you only listed large dogs that tend to bite? I call BS on the list! What about Chihuahua’s they bite all the time! My red nose pitbull is a very loving dog, I have had her 3 years and not so much as a nibble. She is very protective of her pack being us. The ones that are aggressive to fight are trained that way! The dogs not bad the owners are!
Who ever wrote this needs to do some actual research instead of just regurgitation out dated nonsense. Smaller breeds are more likely to bite then any pitbull. Dalmations and labs are amoung the ACTUAL top 10. Due to the fact people assume they are calm & friendly. But, as with any dog, its the owners who are at fault. Due to poor socialization and lack of training. Also, rarely do people research a dogs breed or personality when they get one.
As someone who has daily contact with multiple dogs, of all shapes, sizes and breeds, the smaller dogs are far more aggressive.
I have a German shepherd, she would never bite her people!!! But she wouldn’t think twice about biting someone who hurt any one of her people! Stop giving certain breeds a bad rap, the reality is ANY dog could bite. You, and people like you are the reason people are afraid of my dog when we are walking and will move to the other side of the street but always thought our golden retriever was harmless, wrong, he would have also not thought twice about biting someone that he deemed a threat to his people.
Many larger rescue mixed breeds can bite back
I’m surprised Dalmatians are not on list? Or maybe I missed? Terriers can be mean, like fox terrier. I’m now a cat owner.
A dog is what the owners make them, any dog is capable of bitting, and dog is an extension of their owners.
I rescued a 6 year old husky without any information regarding previous training. I was fortunate to have her for 9 more years. She was the sweetest, most gentle, loving girl. Young kids in the neighborhood could put their hand in her mouth and she would lick them. The only aggression she showed was pulling on the leash when she saw a squirrel. She was indifferent to other dogs but loved people.
There is no breed of dog called pit bull. It’s confused, compounded with other breeds and a very unclear term. There is a breed called the American pit bull terrier. They are known for being gentle, clownish dogs that love to cuddle and have a strong prey drive. Many dogs, mutts and other breeds get lumped in under the label pit bull. Of course bite statistics are high when you label so many dogs as pit bulls. Too many times I see This label on dogs that are not the APBT. I’ve seen everything from boxers to American bull dogs to Argentine Dobros, to Staffordshire terriers mislabeled. The breed characteristics of the APBT make it one of the most human tolerant and loving breeds. Stop spreading bad info.
I am SO tired of defending my pittbulls breed. It’s ridiculous!!’
I agree that Pit Bulls get a bad rap. They need to be trained and loved. My sister had 2 and they were wonderful dogs. They were good with my son when he was small. People abuse them which them bite.
I have adopted or been around most of the dogs on this list and disagree with most of them being labeled as biters. One is more likely to be bitten by a Chihuahua than a Great Dane. Pit bulls continually get a bad rap but I have found them to be quite loving. I have 4 pitbull mixes (one mixed with a boxer, also on the list) and a German Shepherd, all taken in as strays, and all have been great dogs. Sorry, but just can’t agree with this article.
all dogs are potential killers if they are not trained right even the smallest like the silky, but the pitbull is the most misunderstood, but with all dogs they have to be socialized or they may become very protective and aggressive. Their reputation comes from them being trained as a fighting dog from their idiot owners (whom I think should be put in a ring with others like them and forced to fight to the death) along with the other abusers of animals, ( God forgive me for that thought)
But hey, Harvey who write the article is an expert! What a joke.
My daughter had Roxy for 12 years which is really old for a pitbull. She was the most loving, protective, and sweetest dog we ever had. She was not abused, and abused dog will strike back if they’re not abused extremely loving
Pitbulls abused?? In that case Cane Corso or Dogo Argentino are cream ouffa as well??
