2. After all, your cat is a hunter

Cats are born to hunt, and this can sometimes let their instincts take over. This is completely normal and natural, but it can lead to some destruction in your home. Generally, those who have cats are aware of this and accept it.

Let’s say that you have a stapler on your desk. It is ok; a lot of folks have staplers on their desks. Now, your cat enters the room, and this shiny stapler becomes her main interest. What is that, and why is it sitting so condescendingly on the desk? Is that prayer? Could it be a mouse?

This is the moment your cat says, “OK. Time to investigate.” And sure, let the investigations begin. She jumps on top of the chair and starts to stare at the stapler. She pays a lot of attention to it. And after a while, she jumps at it and knocks it over. Why did she do that?

Your cat knocks things over again, and you can’t understand why this is happening. Why is she doing this? It is all linked to her hunter’s instinct. If that stapler was prey, she needed to see if it was something good to eat, smell it, and decide what the next move was. Is it dead? Is it alive? Your cat needs to knock it over in order to verify any of these factors.

So, yeah, this can be another reason why your cat knocks things over. It is natural, and it will happen from time to time. What you can do is buy some food puzzles for your cat. The challenge might give them some satisfaction, and in this, they may leave your stapler alone. Also, some mouse toys infused with catnip might do the job.

  1. LOL, my Tuxedo knocks things over when I am late in feeding her or wants my attention. I have lived with many cats over the years and cats are extremely intelligent. People who say they are not have never lived with one or have NO idea about the one that lives with them. I brought a young Pitfall into the household to live with my two cats. The younger one took the time to get to know him, the older Maine Coon is still getting comfy sniffs him on occasion and caught him sleeping with the Pit on the couch once lol. The Pit? is a social butterfly and loves everyone and everything. Each animal is different with different personalities. It is up to us to get to know them and to make them welcome them into our homes and to teach them as we do our children how they must behave in this world. Animals are just another species and we must learn how to teach them how to live in our world.
