12 Adorable Mixed-Breed Dogs That Will Brighten Your Day

It’s no secret that humans have been breeding dogs since prehistoric times. At that time, people used wolves to develop domestic dogs that you can adopt, train and socialize with nowadays. Yet, there are over 300 known dog breeds worldwide, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes only 197 breeds.

Whether they are the most popular pup breeds in the world, such as the Golden and Labrador Retriever, the French Bulldog, the Beagle and so on, or not-so-popular breeds, such as the Affenpinscher, the Afghan Hound, or the American Hairless Terrier, they are all officially recognized by the AKC among others.

However, this time we will talk about some adorable mixed-breed pooches that are not so popular or officially recognized by the AKC, as they are hybrid dogs. The truth is that there are numerous dog breeds left out by AKC just because they are not purebreds.

Nevertheless, just like our society, even animals, particularly canine friends, have become more and more sophisticated and emancipated – hence, the world evolves, and so does your pet. Therefore, the main idea is that you can have any beautiful mixed-breed dog that you want, and there are a lot of such souls ready to conquer your heart, and you will meet some of them in this article!

But what is a purebred pooch? A purebred dog is a result of breeding a purebred pup with another purebred dog. For example, breeding a purebred Golden Retriever with another purebred Golden Retriever will always produce pooches instantly recognizable as Golden Retrievers, obviously.

A mixed breed pup can be, for instance, the result of two different breeds, such as the Pomsky – which is a cross between the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian.

Even though the AKC doesn’t recognize mixed breeds, the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC) takes into consideration all hybrid breeds.

That being said, here are some adorable mixed-breed dogs that will brighten your day! Read on for more info!

As the name suggests, the Bernedoodle is a cross between a Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog. They can live up to 18 years, but according to animal experts, tiny Bernedoodles tend to live longer than standard.

They can make the perfect companion for any type of family and love to spend time with their people. The Bernedoodle inherits the intelligence of their Poodle parents and the charming and happy personality of the Bernese Mountain Dog.

Being a hybrid breed, the Bernedoodle tends to have fewer health problems, unlike Poodles or Bernese Mountain Dogs. They were developed in 2003, as the breeder wanted an excellent companion furry friend with an impressive temperament that could get along well even with children or other pets, not just a beautiful pet. It seems, that the result was a success.

If you are a Siberian Husky fan, but can’t raise one in your small house or apartment, we have another solution for you: choose a Pomsky – which is actually a cross between the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian. They have blue eyes, pointed ears and a small body that weighs 15 pounds on average.

However, due to the size difference between their parents, Pomskies are developed by artificial insemination (because natural breeding is unsafe) – this process is also expensive, but better safe than sorry!

As I said before, they can adapt to any living condition, making them good apartment dogs, not to mention that they have moderate exercise needs. Just like any other pooch, whether they are purebred dogs or hybrids, they need to be socialized and trained properly, especially at an early age, otherwise, they may develop problematic behavior. The best part is that Pomskies are very trainable.

The Goberian is a cross between the Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky pup breeds.

This hybrid breed is energetic, friendly, clever, and loyal, making great family furry friends. Besides that, they are perfect pets for active families, as they have high exercise needs.

Moreover, Goberians tend to eat a lot, so it’s important to control their diet and physical activity to prevent weight gain.

They can get along well with little kids (as long as they’re nice to them), as well as with other pets, but just like any other pup breed, they should be socialized and trained with a professional from when they’re only little puppies.

They tend to be protective, making great watchdogs. Even if they are smart, Goberians tend to be as stubborn and independent as their parents, but with proper training sessions, they can fix this behavior.

What could be more beautiful than a cross between a Bulldog and a Dalmatian? Well, it seems that the Bullmatian is the center of attention and loves it. They are loving, friendly, energetic, and devoted to their people. The Bullmatian can live up to 12 years, but it depends on the breed, as well as on living conditions, such as the quality of food, amount of exercise, attention, affection and so on.

Just like their parents, Bullmatians tend to be stubborn, so they need patient and authoritative training sessions. However, this hybrid dog breed was discovered in Afghanistan and is a medium-sized breed. They can range in height from 11 to 24 inches.

Bullmatian loves to spend time with their families and get involved in various activities with their people. Being energetic dogs, exercise is a must for them. Even if they are purebred pups or hybrid breeds, they can all end up in animal shelters, so try to adopt a pet and save a life, instead of buying.

Gerberian Shepsky

The Gerberian Shepsky is a mixed breed pooch, namely a cross between the German Shepherd and the Siberian Husky dog breeds. According to animal experts, being a mixed breed, the Gerberian Shepsky tends to be medium to large in size.

Due to their dense fur coats, they are generally not recommended for people with pet allergies, because they tend to shed a lot. Gerberian Shepskies are energetic four-legged friends, which means that they need plenty of exercise and space, so they can’t do well in apartments.

Besides that, these lovely and beautiful dogs can develop problematic behavior if you leave them alone for long periods of time, and they’ll start talking and annoy your neighbors too.

If you want to teach your dog who is the parent of that house, you have to make your pet wait to eat, because this way, you establish your leadership role and they will understand who keeps these valuable resources, such as food, toys, treats, water and so on. Of course, this rule applies to any pup breed out there.

The Morkie is a mixed breed dog resulting from the crossing of two purebred dogs, namely the Maltese and the Yorkshire Terrier. The Morkie is usually referred to as the Yorkshire Terrier. They are small and devoted to their families, making them perfect for living even in an apartment. Being a mixed breed dog, they inherited the best qualities from both their parents, so if you want to adopt one, you will have a perfect friend for life.

In general, hybrid dogs are often called designer dog breeds. The term was ‘invented’ by the media because many celebrities usually show interest in hybrid dogs. However, you can find these mixed breed dogs even at animal shelters, so try to adopt instead of buying.

Their parents don’t shed much, and according to animal experts, the Morkie inherited this trait as well, but they are not officially considered hypoallergenic. In addition, if you have kids, try to make sure they play gently with them, as due to their small size, Morkies can be easily injured.

Aussie Pom

The parents of this crossbreed are the Australian Shepherd and the Pomeranian, and both purebred dogs, but their kids are considered designer dogs. They make excellent companions for families with children who live in an apartment. The truth is that their parents are very different in terms of personality traits, so the temperament of the Aussie Pom can also vary greatly.

According to animal experts, the Aussie Pom was developed in the 2000s in North America, as people wanted a dog with a beautiful and unique appearance and a super-intelligent mind.

Being highly intelligent dogs, they need constant mental stimulation. They can also develop destructive behavior if left alone at home for long periods of time. Moreover, make sure your children know how to play gently with Aussie Poms because they are small and can be easily injured.

If your Aussie Pom tends to be more Aussie than Pom, you have to provide them with a lot of exercise as they have high energy needs. However, if your pet seems to be more Pom than Aussie, then you should know that they can get nervous around strangers and tend to protect their people.

As the name suggests, the Boxador is a designer dog breed resulting from crossing the Boxer and the Labrador Retriever. Just like their parents, Boxadors are medium to large in size, highly intelligent, and loyal to their people.

According to animal experts, this crossbreed is not a great choice for novice pet owners, as they need a lot of exercises, attention, and proper training sessions. However, they can adapt to any living condition if they get enough exercise to consume their energy and meet their needs.

What many people don’t know about these hybrid dogs is that they are protective of their families and friendly with strangers, children, and other animals (especially if they are raised together). One of the most important things that you have to take into consideration before adopting a dog, especially a Boxador, is that they can develop destructive behavior if you leave them alone for long periods of time.

When it comes to their history, it seems that this crossbreed was developed in the 1990s in North America, as designer breeders wanted to create an active and protective companion.

The Frenchton is a mixed breed dog between the Boston Terrier and the French Bulldog. Experts say that this crossbreed is very sociable, playful, friendly, and devoted to their loved ones. They’re not big dogs and most of them weigh around 15 to 25 pounds and range in height, from 11 to 14 inches – the perfect-sized pups, right?

If you want to have a sweet furry friend for life you need to provide them with proper training sessions and try to socialize them from an early age. Even though they can sometimes be stubborn, they are willing to learn new tricks and commands.

They enjoy spending time with their loved ones, especially with children, as well as getting involved in various family activities. that being said, active families are perfect for this crossbreed because they need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation to be as healthy as possible.

This new crossbreed was actually developed in the United States, as designer breeders wanted to create a medium-sized dog, with a friendly and loving temperament. They make excellent family companions (YAY), especially for those who have children and want to make them more responsible.

Nevertheless, just like any other dog, regardless of their breed, the Labbe doesn’t like to be left alone for too long. So, try to take into consideration this aspect before adopting one, otherwise, you will end up abandoning them or raising an unhealthy dog.

As you probably know, the Labbe can get along well with other pets, especially if they are raised together (the family who grew up together stays together, right?).

If you are a fan of the Chihuahua personality but want a fluffier dog, then the ShiChi is the best option for you! ShiChi is a designer dog breed resulting from breeding a Chihuahua with a Shih Tzu.

Just like one of their parents, the ShiChi tends to be a bit aggressive, but due to their size, they are not dangerous. However, try to make sure that your children know how to play gently with them, as they can be easily injured.

However, they are known to be playful and affectionate dogs, making good companion pets for any type of family.

The Sheepadoodle was developed by breeding an Old English Sheepdog and a Poodle. According to animal experts, this crossbreed was discovered in the 1980s and, even though they have a long and dense coat, they don’t shed much, making them hypoallergenic dogs. So, if you want a pet, but suffer from pet allergies, you should consider adopting such a furry friend.

The Sheepadoodle is a smart, playful, and loving creature that loves to spend time with their loved ones. It’s no secret that this hybrid big dog can get along well with little children, as well as with other pets, especially if they grew up together and know how to behave with one another.

But that’s not all! They have a natural superpower, namely the ability to read human emotions, making them excellent therapy and emotional support dogs. Moreover, you have to provide them with enough exercise and games, to help them keep their minds sharp and consume their energy. Like any other dog, they can develop destructive behavior if left alone at home for too long.

  1. My fur daughter is a Peekapoo, cross between a Pekinese and miniature poodle. She is truly a member of the family, both personal and office! Highly intelligent, sensitive, and easy going, she is a highly treasured team member of our local hospice. I started training her to become a therapy dog at just months old, and she was the youngest to become certified at the local Delta Association. She never fails to pick up on peoples’ emotions and gives hugs, pressing her little head into your chest or leg…she’s a perfect addition to our grief groups. Maybe because she has always been around humans, people often mention that she acts more like a “little girl” than a dog!
