1. The Mighty Moose

There are many subspecies of moose in the world; however, the Northern Hemisphere, in particular the North American side, hosts the biggest one of them all. They are the largest moose you will find anywhere in the world, and while many may think of the Canadian Moose, the United States also hosts the same species of moose. This huge mammal, formally known as the Alaska-Yukon subspecies, is also known as the Alaskan moose (in Alaska), the giant moose, or the Yukon moose (in Canada); however, they all speak about the same species of moose.

No one can deny that these are huge mammals with huge discrepancies between the female and male moose, despite both of them being huge. The males are generally about 40% bigger than the females. It is probable that the videos of huge moose running through the snow you have seen online have been of male moose, which can reach over 6.9 feet at the shoulder when we talk about height and over 1,400 lbs. You do not want to stand in their way, that is for sure!

While in the U.S. we may not see them as often as our Canadian neighbors, moose are widespread in Alaska and are densely concentrated around the Alaskan Rivers and the Yukon River in particular (hence their name), and they require up to 9770 kilocalories every day for their diet.

You would not liken this huge mammal to the likes of deer, but the moose is actually the biggest member of the deer family!
