4. Stress

Even if dogs can’t verbalize how they feel, it’s easy to realize there is something wrong with them by simply watching how much fur they shed. According to the vets, animals can be stressed as much (or more) as humans.

If your pooch went through a bad event in the past few hours and you notice they are shedding too much, it could be because of this, and this is how they react to what happened. This is one of the most common reasons why your dog sheds so much fur. To address this, provide comfort through petting and distraction. A nice walk, a time for ball play, and some cuddle time may be helpful.

5. Diet

When we talk about all the reasons why your dog sheds so much, we can’t skip one of the most important ones: nutrition and diet. According to vets, giving your pet nutritional food that keeps its bones, skin, and teeth healthy is crucial. Besides all these reasons, a good diet will also help your dog have shiny and beautiful fur that doesn’t shed extremely.

That’s why it’s very important to look only for high-quality food that’s made of natural ingredients. Most of these types of foods are available in pet shops or veterinary pharmacies. Before buying something, read everything that’s written on the label and pay attention to whether it contains vitamins, fatty acids, proteins, and minerals, and most importantly, if it’s made with vegetables and fruits besides meat.

  1. Your articles are very interesting, helpful, and I relate to all of them. I am 81, have a 5 year old Chihuahua mix that wants to go with me every time I leave the house. Can’t take her to doctor appointments, shopping, etc. Do take her whenever possible. We do snuggle for hours in the afternoons.
Took her to my sisters two years ago. Got her out of the car, had her on a leash that had some slack in it. She took off running, tried to attack a man and I went down on blacktop face first. Broke my nose, left wrist, and three teeth.
Rescued her, wanted a younger dog because I didn’t want to get attached and her pass before me.
After the incident two years ago, I am not comfortable walking her on a leash. Any suggestions?
