Dog behavior problem no. 4: Digging
If they have the chance, you need to know that all dogs will start digging around if they have the chance. That means if you have a yard, your pup will probably dig a bit. And this is not a problem.
But it becomes one of the dog behavior problems as soon as you start to notice that your whole backyard looks like a construction site. This is something that only some pups do, and you should address this problem immediately.
Most of the time, digging is instinctual, and some breeds, like terriers, are more prone to doing it. The roots of this come from their history as hunting dogs.
There are some common reasons that might explain why dogs dig. Some of them are fear, anxiety, boredom, the hunting instinct, the desire to hide various possessions like toys and bones, or to access a restricted area.
Sometimes, when your pup digs up your whole yard, it can get frustrating. The first thing you can do is try to figure out what makes them dig, the reason behind it, and then eliminate it.
Increase your dog’s activity, your time together, and your training efforts. Set aside a space for your dog to freely dig, such as a sandbox, if you feel like digging is inevitable.
